With more than 70 combined years of practical experience designing, developing, manufacturing, selling, repairing and racing high performance dinghies, sailboards and yachts, our Brisbane based team took on the challenge in 2024 to design, produce and sell an affordable set of custom made carbon fibre arm rests for the Gen 5 Canyon Speedmax SLX/CFR model, that are aerodynamically optimised for triathlon racing, utilising your existing Canyon extension bar and dual hand grips or the mono grip.
The problem with the standard and even the upgraded arm rests that Canyon supply, is that there are a number of air gaps and hard edges between and underneath the arms rests that create considerable drag, and these are all ‘surprises’ for the airflow that the apparent wind does not like!
You may not be aware, but increasing the angle of attack by more than 10 degrees on your standard arm rests, only presents more holes and edges for the apparent wind to be 'surprised'.
However our RACE ARMS were designed to be used at an angle of attack up to 35 degrees, so it can deflect air smoothly around the upper body and away from the air gap between your upper arms and the chest area.
This air gap is also a high pressure area, so the more you can fill this area with your head, drink bottles and arms, the lower your drag will be.
Consequently, one of our customers told us that he is now 10 minutes faster using 30 watts less power over his normal Ironman bike leg!
