The original concept was to design and manufacture a set of carbon arm rests in Brisbane for the current Triathlon version of the Canyon Speedmax SLX/CFR. Unlike many custom armrests used by professional triathletes, our goal was to avoid large flat surfaces and sharp edges that can induce turbulence, create lift, or generate drag.
Additionally, the arm rests needed to be compatible with the existing base plate, extension bar, and hand grip system provided by Canyon for the Speedmax. This customization ensures that the arm rests do not interfere with any part of that system.
After an extensive six months filled with thoughtful contemplation, meticulous design, and the careful creation of a two-piece prototype set to launch by September 2024, it became increasingly evident that we were onto something truly significant.
Throughout this development phase, we had the incredible opportunity to present our prototype to several elite age group triathletes. The enthusiastic feedback we received from these seasoned athletes was overwhelmingly positive; each one expressed a genuine desire to acquire a set of their own. Their eagerness reinforced our belief in the potential impact of our innovation in the triathlon community.
After successfully producing a limited number of sets from our initial mould, we quickly recognized the pressing need to create a new mould. This decision was driven by our desire to not only streamline our production process but also to significantly reduce production times.
As we witnessed a surge in demand from our customers, it became clear that enhancing our manufacturing capabilities was essential to meet their needs effectively.
Therefore, we seized the opportunity to refine the design by softening the edges of the underside shell, establishing a fixed width of 240mm, and extending the length to 310mm to accommodate longer extension bars.
The result is the all-new V2 RACE ARMS, now crafted in a single piece for enhanced aerodynamics, stiffness, and strength, weighing only 360 grams—including 10mm foam arm padding with CNC-machined drainage channels.
Additionally, we expanded the top inside area of the armrests to better fit all most BTA accessories on the Canyon extension bar, which can also serve as convenient storage for new or used gels, allowing you to keep your hands close to the handgrips.
